In Florida, the statute of limitations for filing a personal injury lawsuit resulting from a car accident is two years from the date of the accident. This change, effective March 24, 2023, reduced the previous four-year limit to two years.

Therefore, if your accident occurred on or after March 24, 2023, you have two years to file a lawsuit. For accidents that occurred before this date, the four-year statute still applies.

It's important to note that certain exceptions may apply, such as cases involving minors or claims against government entities, which can affect these timeframes.

In a crash your body can jerk against the seatbelt and seat, causing whiplash. Hands on the wheel or shifter can lead to wrist sprains; knees can hit the dash and bruise or injure; seatbelts can strain shoulders; and the neck or lower back can suffer herniated discs.
